Paintings with history at the Sotheby’s and Christie’s are no doubt the most creative and beautiful paintings which later became the most expensive paintings in the world. The paintings painted by the born artists like Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh and many other artists have their each painting as the best ones. These paintings were put to auction several times and their worth is increasing day by day.

10. Irises by Vincent Van Gogh

This painting was painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1889 in France. It was the most expensive painting of its time and was sold for $53,900,000 to Alan Bond. Vincent Van Gogh painted this while he was in asylum in the last year before his death. He used to call this painting as “the lightning conductor for my illness” because he thought that he could keep himself from going insane, by continuing painting. He considered this painting to be a study but his brother quickly submitted it to the annual exhibition of the Societe des Artistes Independents in September 1889.

The painting was publically displayed in 1961 and was commemorated on Picasso’s 80th Birthday.

It was confiscated by the Nazi Germany when the Nazis occupied Austria and then later in 2006 was put to auction.

In 1994 it was first traded and then later in 2006 it was again sold to a billionaire named Steven A. Cohen. And the adjusted price currently of this painting is $152.5 million.

It was first a part of Museum of Modern Art and was owned by Samuel Irving and then later it was sold to David Geffen who again sold it to David Martinez in 2006. And currently the painting is worth $155.3 million.
